“Everyone should hear this story” – a Ukrainian who survived a gunshot wound to the face by the occupiers impressed CNN journalists

A resident of Chernihiv region with a gunshot wound to the head literally got out of a mass grave.

A resident of the village of Dovzhik, Chernihiv region, survived a Russian shooting soldier in the face, and was able to get out of the grave, where he was buried with his two murdered brothers. Mykola Kulichenko's story impressed American journalists from CNN.

Such a plot can be found only in Hollywood blockbusters, and it is impossible to imagine in real life. However, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has brought a lot of grief , which simply cannot be ignored.

“It's like being resurrected,” Mykola, 33, began.

The man, like many other Ukrainians, was under occupation, at the beginning of a full-scale war, Russian soldiers drove into his native village in Chernihiv region. Three and a half weeks later, Mykola Kulichenko, along with two other brothers, Yevhen and Dmytro, were accused by Russian servicemen of guerrilla activity and the destruction of a column of Russian equipment. The men were beaten, tortured, tried to confess, and then shot. However, Nikolai, the only one of the three brothers, was lucky, the bullet hit his cheek and came out near his right ear. The only chance to survive was to pretend to be dead.

“It was hard for me to breathe because Dmytro was lying on top of me, but with my hands and knees I was able to push my older brother towards the pit, after which I climbed out,” says the man.

After that, Mykola under cover of night reached the nearest house, where an unknown woman helped him escape and return to his sister.

“I'm lucky … and now I just have to live on,” he said. “Everyone should hear this story, not only in Ukraine, but all over the world, because such things happen, but this is only one case in a billion.”
