Erdogan and Stoltenberg discussed the war in Ukraine and membership of Finland and Sweden in NATO

No progress has been made in the negotiations regarding NATO membership of the Scandinavian countries.

President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg discussed the war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine and the aggressive actions of Greece in the Aegean region. This was reported by the Office of Communications of the Administration of the President of Turkey.

According to Hürriyet, the meeting lasted two and a half hours.

President Erdoğan noted that as a result of high-level diplomatic contacts carried out by Ankara with Russia and Ukraine, it was possible to achieve the resumption of the “grain corridor”. The accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO will be determined by the steps taken by these countries in the direction of implementing the provisions of this document.

On Thursday Stoltenberg met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. At the press conference after the meeting, Stoltenberg spoke in favor of the ratification of Finland and Sweden's membership in NATO.

Stoltenberg said that Finland and Sweden held back Turkey's promises to fight terrorism at the NATO summit in June, so the NATO accession processes have be completed.

Çavuşoğlu replied that Finland and Sweden still have to work on fulfilling their promises.
