China has completed military exercises near Taiwan

Beijing called the exercises a demonstration of growing military power and determination to challenge “any attempt to separate Taiwan from China.”

China completed its military exercises in Taiwan Strait, which were initiated in response to the visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan. This was reported by The Guardian with reference to China's state television.

It is noted that China conducted these exercises to demonstrate Beijing's growing military power and determination to challenge “any attempts to separate Taiwan from China.” Also, Chinese television reports that the PRC military will now conduct “regular” exercises near Taiwan and that the “historic task” of China's “reunification” may be realized.

Recall that on Thursday China started unprecedented military exercises in the Taiwan Strait with the use of dozens of fighter jets and the launch of ballistic missiles. China decided to demonstrate its military power in response to the first visit in 25 years by a high-ranking American official to the island of Taiwan, which is claimed by China. Nancy Pelosi's visit to the island lasted less than a day, but provoked great tension in US-China relations.

The Chinese side threatened “serious consequences”, and the US accused China of provocations in the Taiwan Strait.
