The exact number of those buried under Izyum is still unknown.
Experts have just started exhuming bodies at the site of mass burials near Izyum in the Kharkiv region, and have already found evidence of further atrocities by the Russian military against the Ukrainian population. Whole families were found buried there, as well as the dead with clear signs of torture, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said in his address.
“Another mass burial of murdered people, children and adults, civilians and military, tortured, shot, killed by shelling… Even whole families are buried there – mother, father and daughter… More than 400 graves in the forest near Izyum…”, he said.
The head of state emphasized that experts still do not know the exact number of dead people buried near the city. At the same time, they already have evidence of Russian war crimes.
“The body of a man who was strangled with a rope, with a rope around his neck and buried… Bodies with broken arms, with other traces of abuse… Mass grave with killed soldiers: 17 bodies – some of them with clear traces of torture,” Zelenskyy added.

The President of Ukraine confirmed that in Izyum there are currently more than 100 Ukrainian and foreign journalists who must show the world the consequences of the terror committed by the Russian army. Ukrainian investigators, prosecutors and experts are also working at the burial site.
“The world should see this today. The world should know that Russia leaves such traces of atrocities, traces of terror everywhere in the occupied territory. You saw Bucha. You saw Mariupol. Now Raisin. How much longer can this continue? How many more such places must Russian terrorists create before the world stops them?” asked the head of the country.
Zelensky emphasized that there is only one thing missing in the world today – recognition of the truth. Therefore, he appealed “to America and Europe, to politicians and societies, to the UN and all international organizations, to the leaders of states and every ordinary person who values life” and once again called to recognize the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism.
“Russia has already become the largest source of terrorism in the world. And no other terrorist force leaves behind so many deaths. This must be recognized legally. We must act. If there is no such recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, it will be a betrayal of all those who were killed by Russians forces, who was tortured, who was buried in numerous mass graves throughout the territory where Russian soldiers entered,” the president said.
He emphasized that the world must act to prevent the repetition of this , which has already happened in Bucha, Mariupol and Izyum. According to Zelenskyi, Russian terror cannot be stopped without recognition of the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism.
