Bulgaria will ask the European Union to lift the ban on Russian oil

The country is looking for solutions to help avoid risks to refineries and production.

Bulgaria will ask the European Union to postpone the imposition of an oil embargo against Russia, which is to be included in the sixth package of sanctions . This was stated by the Minister of Energy of Bulgaria Oleksandr Nikolov, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to BGNES.

“Bulgaria's position on oil is clear – in the end, we definitely want a postponement,” Nikolov said.

According to the Minister, his country will send a request next week to find solutions that will prevent risks to the operation of refineries and production.

He also noted that Bulgaria will cooperate with Greece and Romania to potentially reduce the region's dependence on natural gas.

It will be recalled that the President of the European Commission Ursula von del Leyen suggested that the EU impose a ban on imports of crude oil from Russia for six months, and oil products – until the end of 2022.

Earlier it became known that The European Union may allow Hungary and Slovakia to postpone the embargo on Russian oil until the end of 2023 .
