Britain has quadrupled funding for a program that supports Ukrainian scientists

For two years, Ukrainian scientists will be able to continue their research at British universities.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson has announced a series of measures to support Ukraine's science, technology and research sectors as part of the UK's broader efforts to strengthen Ukraine's economy and security in the face of Russia's brutality.

the British government on Tuesday, June 28, decided to quadruple the funding of the Researchers at Risk Fellowship.

It is noted that the sector will also be vital for Ukraine's long-term recovery program, a platform on which Ukraine will recover – providing jobs, attracting investment and developing next-generation technologies.

“The people of Ukraine have had to sacrifice a lot from Putin's barbarism. But I remain fully committed to securing a future in which Ukraine and the United Kingdom prosper together. Science and technology will be crucial in ensuring Putin's failure in Ukraine, and it will be crucial to the recovery of Ukraine's economy. The United Kingdom will be with our Ukrainian friends at every step, “said Boris Johnson.

In particular, more than 130 Ukrainian scientists will receive support under the program, which began in March. Initially, the program was allocated 3 million pounds, and announced today an additional 9.8 million will allow it to expand significantly.

Ukrainian scientists who were forced to move abroad or were unable to return home due to Russian aggression will be able to continue their research and share experiences with foreign colleagues with the support of the United Kingdom. The scholarship program provides for the payment of salaries and reimbursement of living expenses for up to two years for Ukrainian researchers. In the future, scientists will be able to return home and make a significant contribution to the country's reconstruction.

Equally important is the support of Ukrainian universities, which will be able to work with leading UK universities thanks to the new UK twinning program.

“We appreciate the decision of the UK Government to expand the Researchers at Risk Fellowship. I believe that this collaboration will strengthen cooperation between our countries in the field of education and science, “said Serhiy Shkarlet, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.
