The kingdom has already imposed more than 1,000 sanctions against Russia to stop supporting Putin's “military machine.”
British Foreign Secretary Liz Trass has announced 65 new sanctions against Russia aimed at “shutting down vital industries that fuel Putin's military machine”: strategic industries, banks and business elites, according to the British government 's website .
Among those who came under sanctions:
- Russian Railways (Russian Railways);
- defense company Kronstadt (the main manufacturer of Russian drones);
- Wagner's group, an organization of Russian mercenaries reportedly tasked with assassinating President Zelensky;
- six banks, including Alfa-Bank, co-founded by formerly sanctioned oligarchs Mikhail Friedman, Peter Aven and Herman Khan;
- the world's largest diamond producer, Alrosa;
- oil billionaire tycoon Eugene Schwidler;
- the founder of Tinkoff Bank Oleg Tinkov;
- Herman Gref, CEO of Russia's largest bank, Sberbank;
- Polina Kovaleva, stepdaughter of Foreign Minister Lavrov;
- Galina Danilchenko, whom Russia has appointed “mayor” of Melitopol, is the first time a person has been sanctioned for cooperating with Russian troops currently in Ukraine.
“These oligarchs, businessmen and mercenaries are involved in the killing of innocent civilians, and it is right that they are paying the price. Putin should not entertain illusions – we are united with our allies and will continue to tighten the screws on the Russian economy to ensure its failure in Ukraine, “said Liz Trass.
The sanctions include the freezing of all their assets in the UK, the refusal to do business with British companies and a ban on crossing the British border.
During the month of the war, Britain imposed sanctions on more than 1,000 individuals and legal entities in Russia.
