EU High Representative Josep Borrell announced new macro-financial assistance Ukraine in the amount of up to 8 billion euros. He announced this in his Independence Day greeting published on the website of the European External Action Service.

“The EU has stood by the Ukrainians since the beginning of the war, realizing that our common security is at stake. We have adopted six packages of increasingly severe sanctions. For the first time, we have financed the delivery of military aid to a country under attack so that Ukraine can fight back. We provide humanitarian support and macro-financial assistance to keep the Ukrainian state afloat. In total, Team Europe has mobilized 9.5 billion euros so far, and additional macro-financial assistance worth up to 8 billion euros is expected in the near future,” Borrell said.

According to him, EU foreign and defense ministers will discuss in Prague next week what EU countries can do to support Ukraine and increase the cost of this war for Russia, including the issue of visas for Russian citizens and a possible EU training mission for Ukrainian armed forces. forces.

“In the coming weeks, the international community will have to stick to our three-pronged strategy: to support Ukraine, to put pressure on Russia, and to solve the larger problems of exiting the war. This will be at the center of discussions at the UN General Assembly in New York in September. In the longer term the perspective also raises the question of how we can not only end this war, but also prevent a new one in a few months or years. This includes important questions about how to give Ukraine the opportunity to defend itself, as well as the question of security guarantees.” says the high representative of the EU.
