Born by candlelight: the story of a new life in mortal danger in the racist occupied Bucha

People in Bucha were shot dead by the Russian military in the streets. In conditions of fear and despair, Ukrainians still continued to live, help each other and give the world new lives.

In the Russian-occupied Bucha, despite the lack of electricity, gas, heating, water and obstetricians, Alice was successfully born on March 8. Her and other dramatic stories of Bucha civilians who survived the occupation, tells Elena Zhezhera in the article “How Bucha fought for her life: the birth of Alice and the history of the field hospital at home” .

Nothing worked in the occupied Bucha that day. The maternity hospital in Vorzel was shot down, it was dangerous to go to another city, and no one guaranteed survival.

Anya was sent home to the only therapist who remained in the area and helped the townspeople – Irina.

” When I was told that we were pregnant at home, and even 40 weeks old, I shuddered. In my sophomore year, I wanted to be a gynecologist and taught obstetrics well. But she had no practice. And what to do. I confidently said: we will give birth, we will keep calm “, – Irina remembers.

On March 8, at 4 o'clock in the morning, the water receded in Ana. At that time, the house had no electricity, no gas, no heating, no water. They gave birth by candlelight.

“The water was from the pump room, but it was cold and there was no way to heat it. Therefore, Alice, as if understanding the situation, was born unexpectedly clean. We just wiped it and wrapped it warmly. Alice's father cut the umbilical cord. We weighed Dad without Alice, and then with Alice, so we learned that the weight of the newborn is 3600 g. Height – 59 cm. She was born exactly at 7 am, “- says the now happy midwife.

< p> Catherine, who became a grandmother that day, can not contain her joy and gratitude:

“I am sincerely grateful to the Man with a capital letter for being with my daughter. I imagine that Irina felt that night against March 8, when she gave birth for the first time in her life. We have been praying since 19:00, from the moment Anya called me and told me that the contractions had started. I called the godmother Anyutka. She is to all her acquaintances, and I am to mine. We are sure that our prayers helped everyone: Irina and her “team”, and our daughter. I believe in our victory and I really want to hug Irina – the Holy Man! I bow low to her! And as long as I live in the world, I will pray to God for her! She helped my granddaughter see this world! ”
