Border Guard Day is celebrated in Ukraine

After the start of the war, border guards played an important role in protecting the territorial integrity of our country.

April 30 in Ukraine marks the Day of the Border Guard. The holiday was started by a presidential decree, taking into account the merits of border troops in protecting and guarding the state border of independent Ukraine.

Until 2003 Border Guard Day in Ukraine was celebrated on November 4 – the day of the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada in 1991 of the law on the border troops of Ukraine. That law expired in 2003 due to the adoption of a new document – the law on the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Since 2018, the holiday is celebrated on April 30.

Since the beginning of the Russian aggression against In 2014, the professional training of border guards and their loyalty to the homeland play one of the key roles in protecting the territorial integrity of our country. Their responsibilities are risky.

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. A ship of the Russian FSB Border Service approached Snake Island and demanded that Ukrainian border guards lay down their arms. The occupiers completely destroyed the infrastructure of the island, which housed 13 Ukrainian border guards.

Eventually, the Russian Armed Forces captured the island . But the response of the aggressor's fighters “Russian warship, go nah * y” became a legend , and for the occupiers – a lifelong shame.
