Two weeks ago, Novatek tried to return to the Polish market, citing man-made danger.
Polish “daughter” of Russia's largest private gas company “Novatek” has announced force majeure and inability to fulfill obligations under contracts for an indefinite period. This is reported on the company's website.
“Due to force majeure, Novatek is unable to fulfill its contractual obligations.” in the message.
According to the explanation, the force majeure came as a result of the sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russia, which targeted Novatek's assets in Poland.
It will be recalled that two weeks so the Russian company tried to resort to blackmail, which was probably aimed at forcing the Polish authorities to return Novatek to the Polish market.
A warning appeared on the website of the Polish branch of Novatek that 500 railway cars loaded with liquefied gas belonging to Novatek may explode in Poland.
“Due to the physico-chemical properties of LPG gas, in the case of prolonged parking of these cars on the tracks, increasing the outside temperature and, consequently, increasing the gas pressure in the cars, possible involuntary release of gas into the atmosphere “, – said in a statement.
The company did not explain how these cars with gas, which turned out to be unclaimed by consumers, ended up in Poland .
At the same time, Novatek demanded that the gas be delivered to the cargo terminals to prevent an explosion. From where, obviously, the gas should have been directed to Polish consumers.
“The gas contained in the above-mentioned railway tankers had to go indirectly to petrol stations throughout Poland and gas cylinders used in many Polish households, as Novatek Green Energy is one of the key suppliers of autogas in Poland and one of the largest plants in Poland. gas bottling in cylinders with a capacity of 300,000 cylinders per month “, – said in a statement Novatek.
“The company has created and implemented a number of procedures, compliance with which in its current legal status, after the imposition of sanctions and a number of restrictions arising from them This is, in particular, the security of the company's two liquefied gas transshipment terminals, which are subject to high risk due to accumulated gas and, as a result, risks of fault. Novatek was warned.
However, as can be seen from the report on force majeure, the Polish authorities do not responded to the warnings about the explosion of cars, and did not allow Novatek to continue operations in the country.
