Currently, about a third of the units of the Russian Federation from the total number of units located in Ukraine are located in the southern regions.
The Russian military leadership continues to transfer more and more units to Kherson Oblast and Zaporizhzhia, but it is not yet clear whether this is being done for an offensive or to hold captured territories in the event of a counteroffensive by the Armed Forces. Currently, about a third of all Russian troops in Ukraine are stationed in the southern regions. Military expert Serhiy Zgurets told about this in a comment to UNN.
According to him, during the last weeks, the occupiers transferred a certain number of personnel from the Eastern Military District, airborne units and from other directions, in particular from Izyumsk and from Donbas, to the southern direction. In general, about 30 enemy BTGs are currently stationed there, which is about a third of all Russian troops in Ukraine.
Zgurets emphasizes that right now it is difficult to guess the enemy's future plans. Such a number of troops and equipment can indicate both the intention to attack and the intention to preserve the captured territories. According to the expert, if the Russians still dare to advance, the main destinations will be Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv and Kryvyi Rih.
“These are only theoretical assessments of possible actions of the Russian troops, and to a large extent they are difficult to implement. In particular, due to interrupted communication in the Kakhovka area, which was a supply site for the Russians. I think that the Ukrainian side will be able to implement more than one such measure, even before the complete cutting off of logistics on the right bank of the Dnieper. Then the enemy will have the question of what to do with this group, and it is unlikely that it will be an offensive. In the coming weeks, the question of what the enemy will do, whether to advance, or to look for exit options from the right bank zone, will be decided. But the Ukrainian army has the ability to block all the actions of the Russians,” said Zgurets.
