Almost 90% of citizens consider the actions of the Russian Federation in Ukraine to be genocide of the Ukrainian people – poll

At the same time, 92% of respondents consider themselves Ukrainians.

Actions of the Russian occupiers in Ukraine 89% of our citizens recognized as genocide of the Ukrainian people, according to a poll by the sociological group “Rating”. Another 76% of respondents are in favor of banning the symbols Z and V used on Russian military equipment.

The ban on the St. George's Ribbon in Ukraine is supported by 74% of respondents. At the same time, over the past five years, support for the initiative to ban the “St. George's” ribbon has increased from 45 to 74%.

According to the poll, 92% of respondents consider themselves Ukrainians and 5% Russians. Another 3% belong to other ethnic groups. Sociologists pointed out that from 2008 to 2014 there was a stable national distribution: about 83% considered themselves Ukrainians, about 15% – Russians. However, after Russia occupied Crimea and part of Donbas, the number of respondents who identified themselves as Russians decreased to 11%, and the number of Ukrainians increased to 87-88%. At the same time, over the past eight years, the number of those who considered themselves Russians has been gradually declining.

Speaking about the language issue, sociologists stressed that language self-identification and language in everyday life are two different planes. At the same time, sociologists in Ukraine today record a steady decline in the Russian-speaking segment of Ukrainians: in 2012 there were about 40% of such respondents, at the end of 2021 – 26%, at the beginning of the war – 18%, at the end of April – 15%.

Instead, the “flow” of Russian-speakers occurs in the segment of “bilinguals” (from 15 to 33%). The number of those who constantly use only Ukrainian at home has increased slightly from 44% to 51%.

80% of respondents consider Ukrainian their native language, Russian – 16%, another language – 3%.

Polls were conducted on April 27 among the population of Ukraine aged 18 and older in all areas except the temporarily occupied territories Crimea and Donbass. The sample is representative by age, sex and type of settlement. In total, sociologists surveyed 1,000 respondents using the following survey methods: CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews). Error of representativeness of the study with a confidence level of 0.95: not more than 3.1%.
