Almost 3% per month: due to the war in Ukraine, inflation is rising in Egypt – AP

Fuel, energy, products and medical services have become more expensive

Annual inflation in Egypt continues to rise amid Russia's war against Ukraine, which has shaken the world economy. This was reported by the Associated Press, citing the Central Agency for Mobilization and Statistics.

Inflation rose by 2.8% in just one month. This figure reached 14.9% in April against 12.1% in March.

This has provoked a significant rise in prices in many sectors of the economy. Fuel, electricity, food, medical services and entertainment became more expensive. The increase is due to Russia's war against Ukraine, which has shaken world markets and caused oil prices to rise sharply, threatening food supplies and livelihoods around the world.

Food and beverage prices in April compared to March increased by 8.1%. Prices for bread and grain rose by 3.6% and for housing, electricity and energy – by 1.1%, according to the data.

This in turn has become a burden for consumers, especially low-income households and especially for everyday items. According to official figures, almost 30% of Egyptians live in poverty.
