According to US police, the yacht belongs to oligarch Suleiman Kerimov.
In Fiji, a court allowed the United States to confiscate superyacht of one of the Russian oligarchs , reports Reuters. The court ruled 21 days after the yacht was arrested by local police.
According to US law enforcement, the ultimate beneficiary of the Amadea yacht is Russian businessman Suleiman Kerimov. He was recently sanctioned by the United States and the EU over Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, lawyers of Millemarin Investments, for which the yacht is registered, deny that Kerimov is the ultimate beneficiary of the vessel.
In Fiji, Amadea arrived from Mexico in April and had no customs clearance. Prior to that, she sailed the Pacific Ocean for 18 days. Police detained the yacht and questioned the captain.
The Fiji High Court in April banned the yacht from leaving the island until a court considered a United States confiscation order.
Fiji said it was acting at the request of the United States in accordance with the law on mutual assistance in criminal matters.
