The Russian language has lost its position, including in the east and south of the country.
As of today, the absolute majority of Ukrainians, namely 83%, are in favor of Ukrainian being the only state language in Ukraine. This opinion dominates in all macro-regions, age and language groups, according to a poll by the Rating group.
At the same time, the granting of state status to the Russian language before the war was supported by almost a quarter, and today – only 7% of citizens.
If in peacetime about a third of southerners and the east traditionally supported the status of the state Russian language, now even in these regions their number has almost halved.
At the same time, the data show that language is more of a regional feature, but not a way of thinking. For example, in December 2021, 65% of bilingual Russians were considered aggressors, and half of Russian-speakers. At the same time, in the Ukrainian-speaking segment, one in ten had pro-Russian views.
