Western countries have not imposed sanctions against half of Russia's 20 richest citizens in connection with Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, Bloomberg reports .

An analysis of the European Union's sanctions against the United States and the United Kingdom showed that London imposed sanctions against 10 of them, Brussels against 9, and Washington against only four.

Only three Russian oligarchs are on all sanctions lists. Of the five richest citizens of Russia, only one came under sanctions – Alexei Mordashov. Others – Vladimir Potanin, Leonid Michelson, Vladimir Lisin and Vagit Alekperov – avoided sanctions.

Experts interviewed by Bloomberg say that the decision not to impose sanctions on some oligarchs is due to the fact that they have a critical stake in large energy, metallurgical and mineral companies.

Bloomberg emphasizes that the US authorities have learned a lesson from 2018, when they imposed sanctions against billionaire Oleg Deripaska. Then it led to a sharp rise in aluminum prices.

An analysis of the sanctions has shown that the restrictions of the United States, Britain and the EU are very different.

The United States sanctioned 852 people, the EU 775, and Britain 982. But many sanctions do not intersect.
