YouTube video hosting has completely suspended monetization in Russia in connection with the war started by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine. This means that the creators of content for video hosting will no longer be able to receive income from users from Russia, according to Interfax.

“We are extending the suspension to all monetization options, including YouTube Premium and Music Premium subscriptions, channel sponsorships, super chats, super stickers and merch for Russian viewers,” the YouTube statement said.

This means that content creators on the hosting will temporarily not be able to earn income from views from Russia. But this change will not affect the income from users outside Russia.

Prior to that, Google and YouTube turned off advertising in Russia, thus depriving users from Russia of the opportunity to earn money from advertising viewed by Russian users.

In addition, the company has blocked payments in Russia by Google Pay, which prevents users from Russia from buying new applications or renewing subscriptions to already purchased ones. You also can't subscribe to YouTube Premium, which allows you to watch videos without ads.

Visa and Mastercard payment systems will stop servicing Russian cards from March 10. Cards issued in Russia will be valid domestically, but will become inactive abroad. Conversely, cards issued abroad will not work domestically.
