The social network Instagram spoke about the steps it will take to curb Russian propaganda and protect users from Ukraine against the background of the war unleashed in our country by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to Techcrunch, the social network will start tagging content created by Russian state media. Thus, users who decide to share the content created by these sources will see a message warning them against disseminating information from the Russian state media.

“Instagram believes that the account that created this post may be partially or completely under the editorial control of the Russian government,” the statement said. The message will be posted when trying to share both the post and the story.

In addition, Instagram will lower the priority of content created by such accounts, it will be published at the bottom of search results. It will also no longer be on the list of suggested posts that generate Instagram algorithms.

The social network also launched additional privacy settings for some users from Ukraine and Russia. The lists of subscribers and subscribers of all closed accounts located in these countries will now be closed.

Earlier, the company Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, said it would encrypt all personal messages of adult users from Russia and Ukraine, as well as simplify for them the mass removal of content and activity.
