US lawmakers have called on Biden to protect the cyberspace of Ukraine and Europe

Russia may step up hacking attacks on critical infrastructure in Ukraine and Europe, according to the United States.

Deputies from the Democratic Party appealed to the President of the United States to help European partners and Ukraine to defend itself in cyberspace, writes CNN. The recent powerful hacker attack on Ukrtelecom has caused concern, with 70% of users losing access to the Internet.

In a letter to Joe Biden, Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markie and MP Bill Keating expressed concern about Ukraine's cybersecurity. According to politicians, due to Russia's highly questionable military progress, “offensive actions” in cyberspace may be intensified. A hacker attack on Ukraine's largest telecommunications network, Ukrtelecom, has reduced communications capacity by 13% from pre-war levels.

The State Department has strengthened US cooperation with Ukraine and European allies on cybersecurity, and in turn has helped protect against Russian hacker threats, “the article said.

The White House commented on the appeal and noted that the United States has already provided financial assistance to Ukraine to support networks, as well as sent a group of cyber specialists last year to help protect Ukraine's infrastructure.

In the last month and a half, Russian hackers have carried out only two powerful cyber attacks. The first was at the beginning of the war, when the Internet failed in satellite modems in Ukraine and Europe. The other is on Ukretelecom. So far, the worst expectations of American analysts have not come true and significant breaks in critical infrastructure have not occurred.

However, the United States understands that Russia's IT potential is quite high and is preparing for possible cyberattacks.

It will be recalled that earlier Russian hackers attacked the servers of NATO and the armed forces of some Eastern European countries.
