Ursula von der Leyen discussed the fight against corruption with Volodymyr Zelensky

Following the meeting, she said that the conclusion of the European Commission on Ukraine's application for EU membership will be ready by the end of next week, and spoke about the country's economic support.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leinen arrived in Kyiv , where she met with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Interfax reports.

Von der Leinen stated that the European Commission intends to invest in Ukraine and carry out reforms, including improving the lives of Ukrainians, make the country more attractive to investors and “support Ukraine in its European path”. She added that Ukraine was already “on the right track” and that Europe was ready to support it in every possible way.

The President of the European Commission also stressed the need to strengthen Ukrainian legislation in the fight against corruption.

” Of course, there is still work to be done. I want you to understand me correctly. Ukraine is at war now. And you are concentrating all your efforts now, and all our support is going to overcome this terrible war. Through reconstruction, we want to see how we will move forward in the future, for example, you have done a lot to ensure the rule of law, you also need to further strengthen anti-corruption legislation and ensure even better functioning of the administration to create the necessary conditions to fight corruption, ensure proper business, “she said. von der Leyen at a press conference following talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Saturday.
