Ukrainian icebreaker “Noosphere” returned to Chile, making a flight to Antarctica. This was reported at the National Antarctic Research Center. The ship took Ukrainian and Polish expeditions to the Academician Vernadsky station.

This was the first voyage of the Noosphere to the icy continent under the blue-yellow flag. A Southern Ocean exploration program was planned for the same flight. Most of the program had to be canceled due to the Russian-Ukrainian war. However, for the first time in 20 years, a Ukrainian expedition took samples of bottom sediments in the ocean.

“During the war, when other countries asked us if we could at least rotate winterers on the Vernadsky, it could be called not just a victory, but a very great victory on the Antarctic front,” said the director of the National Antarctic Research Center. Eugene Wild.
