Scientists have created a robot rat that can look for people under the rubble

The robot is able to penetrate hard-to-reach places and conduct reconnaissance work.

A group of scientists led by Professor Qin Shi of Beijing Institute of Technology has developed a robot rat that is able to move under the rubble and look for people. According to NV, the researchers were inspired by a gray rat, its compact size and body structure allow it to penetrate into bottlenecks.

< Scientists were able to copy the morphology and type of movement in the space of rats. They repeated the trajectory of all the animal's joints to obtain a stable and motor mechanism.

The robot is called SQuRo, it can squat, walk, crawl and turn, as well as recover from a fall. The mechanical rat controls its limbs and neck to adjust its center of gravity.

During the field tests, the SQuRo successfully passed an uneven, narrow passage only 90 millimeters wide, overcame an obstacle and achieved stable movement at an angle of 15 degrees. In the future, the rat robot can be used to search for people under the rubble.

The main advantage of SQuRo is maneuverability and compact size. But in addition to the ability to climb into hard-to-reach places, the robot can also carry a small load. During the tests, he showed stability at a load of 91% of its own weight, which is 220 grams. 41 people were rescued from the rubble.
