The war is not over yet: a photo exhibition dedicated to journalists covering the war has opened in Kyiv

On Thursday, June 23, the photo exhibition The War Is Not Over Yet opened in the capital's Taras Shevchenko Park and will last until July 6. The aim of the project is to tell about journalists who tell the world the truth about Russian crimes against the Ukrainian people every day from the beginning of a full-scale invasion.

The exhibition tells the stories of journalists who died, were wounded, came under fire, were captured or persecuted since the beginning of the war. They are the ones who remind everyone every day: the war is not over yet.

According to the Institute of Mass Media, as of June 21, 2022, 33 Ukrainian and foreign journalists were killed:

  • 8 killed in the line of duty;
  • 25 killed in hostilities or as a result of Russian shelling or torture.

At least 13 journalists were injured and 15 more disappeared missing.

Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has committed more than 300 crimes against journalists and the media in Ukraine.

The exhibition was organized by the Institute of Mass Information, Ukrainian PEN, ZMINA Human Rights Center, Lviv Media Forum, National Museum of the Revolution of Dignity, Georgy Gongadze Prize with the assistance of the Shevchenko District State Administration in Kyiv and the Kyiv City Center for Folk Art and Cultural Studies. At the opening ceremony, media people spoke, representing their fallen colleagues or telling their own stories of work in the war.

After July 6, the exhibition will move to Boyarka, the hometown of murdered journalist and photojournalist Max Levin.
