The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy urges not to disseminate information about the relocation of cultural heritage sites during the war in order to protect museum collections and people from danger. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Ekaterina Chueva during an online briefing, Ukrinform reports.
“Dissemination of such information, as well as the dissemination of unverified data or data on detailed damage to museum buildings, exposes collections and people who care for them to additional danger,” explains Ekaterina Chueva.
According to her, cultural heritage sites, in particular, can become attractive targets for occupiers, looters or thieves.
The Deputy Minister also said that now the Ministry of Culture together with UNESCO is marking cultural heritage sites with the emblem of the Blue Shield, which gives them the status of enhanced protection. She noted that the destruction of the marked monuments is considered direct evidence of a war crime against culture.
In addition, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy has launched a special website to collect evidence of crimes committed by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian culture. They are asked to report the damage to the monuments.
