The first theatrical project about the events of the day of the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine was presented in Kyiv

The director of “Blokpost” is Oleksandr Stepantsov, a young director, a student of M. Yu. Reznikovych and D. V. Babayev, the author of successful productions on the stage of the Lesia Ukrainka Theater Aldo Nicolai).

Recently, the director has been working on two plays about the war in parallel – the Slovak anti-fascist play “While the Rooster Sings” by Ivan Bukovčan about the events of World War II in Europe and a new play from the young Ukrainian author Anton Nesmiyanov “BLOCKPOST” about the events of the current Russian-Ukrainian war.

Nesmiyanov offered his text in the project of stage readings “We are from Ukraine”, within which the directors turn to modern and classical drama.

According to director Oleksandr Stepantsov, “the current tragedy of the Russian-Ukrainian war still needs time for modern authors to reflect in their new texts on the scale and abyss of this military and human catastrophe, but the value of new dramatic texts about the war. in the fact that in such texts there is an engraved pain of this moment, our present day of war, there are living wounds that irritate everyone, there are sincere emotions and creative anxiety of modern young authors. “At the Blokpost screening, the crowded hall breathed and lived with our actors both with a tragic theme and a military history,” said the director after the first screening of the project on the New Stage of the Lesia Ukrainka Kyiv Theater.

In the play “Blockpost” among the main characters is Grandfather, who stands guard at the checkpoint on the eve of the aggressor's invasion. His grandson hurries to help Grandpa, who does not immediately admit that during the grandfather's guard a full-scale invasion of the enemy on Ukrainian soil has already begun. Explosions, shootings and refugees at the checkpoint later open the eyes of the old grandfather to a real war, in which everyone will later take part …

Director Oleksandr Stepantsov tells our publication that some actors of the Lesia Ukrainka Theater are involved in two of his military theatrical projects at the same time: Anton Nesmiyanov's current “Blockpost” and Ivan Bukovchan's upcoming play “While the Rooster Sings”. Rehearsals of the Slovak anti-fascist play began on April 28 and it is too early to talk about the premiere prospects: the director hopes that the new play will appear immediately after the Victory.
