The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) has stated that it is suspending cooperation with Russia because of the war unleashed in Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The relevant statement was published on the organization's website.
“23 CERN member states strongly condemn Russia's military invasion of Ukraine and deplore the human casualties and humanitarian consequences, as well as Belarus' involvement in this illegal use of force against Ukraine.
Ukraine is an associate member of CERN, and Ukrainian scientists are actively involved in many of the Laboratory's experiments and activities. Deeply affected by the large-scale and tragic consequences of the aggression, CERN's leadership and staff, as well as the scientific community in CERN member states, are working to contribute to humanitarian action in Ukraine and help the Ukrainian community at CERN, “the organization said.

The Council of the organization held an extraordinary meeting and approved the following actions against Russia:
Russia's observer status has been suspended;
CERN will temporarily not participate in new cooperation with Russia and its institutions;
CERN will promote initiatives to support Ukrainian staff and Ukrainian research.
It is also noted that the Council will continue to monitor the situation and, if necessary, will take any action that is required in the future. In addition, the organization emphasizes that it adheres to all sanctions that have been imposed against Russia.
The CERN Council has expressed support for Russian scientists who have spoken out against Russia's war in Ukraine.
