Portrait of Titian: A previously stolen Renaissance painting has been found in Italy

The portrait shows a man with a reddish beard and a black headdress, looking directly at the viewer. Police have issued a warrant for the confiscation of a work now handed over to the Italian state.

The specialized unit that discovered the work employs 280 dedicated investigators tasked with protecting Italy's priceless cultural treasures. According to Forbes, an investigation is currently underway into the disappearance of the picture of two Swiss citizens.

Titian Vecellio was born in Pievi di Cadori, a small town near Venice. He was active in the 16th century and became known for his dramatic paintings on social, religious and mythical themes.
