It is noted that earlier Vaikule did not publicly declare its position. On February 28, she recorded a video message in which she asked to “stop” and said “no war, no death.” At the same time, she did not directly condemn Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Now she explained that she is definitely on the side of our country.
“And what about the other way around? What else could be expected from me? We live in Latvia, I am a citizen of Latvia, our policy and position are clear,” said Vaikule.
At the beginning of the war, she did not want to say the same words as the others: “With what I said [in that video], everything was clear. If I didn't want to comment on anything, I would be silent. I think that there are no people in Latvia who are in favor of war. Here we are looking at the blue sky, and rockets are being launched across Ukraine, killing all living things,” she added.
Vaikule also said that she is not yet considering the possibility of performing in Russia, “she doesn't know how it can be happen emotionally' but 'doesn't want people to hate'. The singer noted that all Baltic residents should now be united.
“You are a citizen of Latvia, and it does not matter what nationality you are. We should all be together against the war, against those who unleashed this war,” said Vaikule. She also admitted that every day she wakes up and goes to bed with news about Ukraine.
In addition, Vaikule said that she is ready for what headlines the news about her position will appear in the Russian media and is ready for criticism from residents of the aggressor country.
