“On June 19 at 15.00 Kyiv Young Spectator Theater opens its doors to spectators,” says ZN.UA strong>Slava Zhyla, director-artistic director of the capital's YUGY in Yupky. This is a sincere family story about the adventures of a girl Lisa and her cheerful grandmother, a play about how important it is for children and adults to respect and care for each other. And on June 26 our theater will show a fairy tale “You are special!”. There are also plans to hold a charity show at the OKHMATDIT Children's Hospital.
The theater is currently hosting open professional trainings for actors and free workshops for children. Among the teachers are actors and directors: Valeria Fedotova, Pavlo Gatilov, Eugene Spouse, and others.
And, of course, new productions are being prepared. The project “Don Quixote” by Miguel Servatnes, “The Witch of Konotop” by Hryhoriy Kvitka-Osnovyanenko, “Painted Fox” by Ivan Franko, “Tsar, Plaksiy and Loskotun” by Vasyl Symonenko are under development. At the same time, the Kyiv Youth Theater in Lypky has already begun active rehearsals for the new play “Bless the Children and the Beasts” based on the story by American writer Glendon Swartout, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner.
Fifty years ago, Stanley Kramer's famous film based on Swartout's work was released, which even won an Oscar nomination (for best soundtrack). Today, a young Ukrainian director Valery Fedotov is working on the text of Swartout in the capital's YUG.
“Bless the Children and the Beasts” is not an accidental text for the director. Recently in Lviv, at the Oleksa Kravchuk Theater “Both People and Puppets”, Valeria carried out a project of performative readings of Swartout's story, involving students from various Ukrainian theater schools. The project was successful and the Lviv theater repeated it many times. With the same material, the director came to the leadership of the capital's YUG in Lypky. Casting, selecting the young actors who are most impressive Swartout's story about six teenagers fleeing the summer camp from the dictates of adults and educators and trying to escape to change this world for the better: in this case, these teenagers, full of idealistic delusions, seek to save a herd of buffalo, bred specifically for the cruel pastimes of mad hunters. Of course, the American author has a story not only about bison, but, above all, about the inner worlds of young people, because each of the six characters has their own complexes and their own family problems.
Premiere dates of the new play The theater does not advertise yet.
The new play involves actors: Alexander Piskunov (Theater on the Left Bank, star of the films “Cyborgs”, “Steep”, “Border”), Pavel Logvin, Yegor Kurishchenko, Artem Karatayev (Podil Theater), Artem Vovk (TYUG), Volodymyr Skoryk (TYUG), Pavlo Ignatiuk (TYUG), Konstantin Anikiev.
The artist of the project is Yuri Larionov (Drama and Comedy Theater on the Left Bank). Costume designer – Khrystyna Korabelnikova. Composer – Valentin Boyko (Theater on the Hem).
“It seems unbelievable that I will now talk about how we are making a new play in Kyiv and that it is possible today in wartime,” says Valeria Fedotova emotionally. “Our Heroes, who are defending us and our land today, we even have this opportunity. I am sincerely amazed at what a strong good a person is really capable of. The actors I have gathered in this new work have such good in their hearts and direct it here – in art, in our Ukrainian theater.
In addition to the fact that these are talented and interesting young people who can do something new, extraordinary and important, they are charitable. This is exactly what is needed for such material, because this is the first feature of the characters we create. The story is still about Freedom, about Freedom for each of us. It unites me and all of us with this Swartout material. When shocked by the brutality of people, teenage outsiders of a fashion camp for future men – cowboys, where they teach that strength in the ability to shoot and compete, run away at night to save a herd of bison doomed to be shot, and moreover, save him. ., I think that the power of Goodness and Justice is much stronger than destruction.
“Here it is, freedom for the buffalo and for us! Once and for all!” – Says our hero Cotton. I would define this future show for an audience aged 14+. It should be for teenagers and their parents, young and old, for everyone … “.
