The world's main chess portal has closed the accounts of Russian oligarchs and removed the flags of Russia and Belarus

Chess.com condemned the war in Ukraine.

The world's largest chess portal Chess.com has imposed sanctions against the background of Russia's military invasion of Ukraine.

This was announced by the site's moderators in a statement.

Chess.com has blocked the accounts of chess players from Russia and Belarus who have come under international sanctions. In particular, the accounts of many Russian oligarchs have been identified and closed.

There will also be no subscription fees from the occupying country and its partner. In addition, the flag of Russia and Belarus is no longer displayed on the site in broadcasts of FIDE tournaments and prize competitions. Russian user flags have been replaced by neutral ones.

Chess.com will also block messages in support of the war or false information about Russia's military aggression. Russian grandmaster from Simferopol Sergei Karyakin, who supports the war in Ukraine, was personally banned from participating in tournaments on the portal.
