There should be no place for representatives of aggressor countries in major sports.
Thirty-five countries, including the USA , Canada, Japan, Great Britain and the countries of the European Union – signed a joint statement on July 5 with a call to strengthen sports sanctions against Russia and Belarus, Radio Liberty reports.
The sanctions include the following measures:< /p>
- terminate the cooperation of international sports federations with the national sports governing bodies of Russia and Belarus;
- remove from influential positions in international sports federations persons closely connected with the Russian or Belarusian authorities;
- consider suspending broadcasts of international sports competitions in Russia and Belarus.
If national or international sports organizations allow athletes from these countries to compete, athletes should act strictly in a neutral status, the statement emphasizes. The use of flags, coats of arms and anthems of Russia or Belarus is prohibited.
Recall that the sports ministers of more than 30 European and non-European countries signed a joint declaration on July 1 calling for the exclusion of Russian and Belarusian sports federations from the international community.
