The US authorities demand that TikTok be removed from the App Store and Google Play

In the US, the application was called a “wolf in sheep's clothing”.

US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) demands that Google and Apple remove TikTok from their app stores. This step was prompted by the information about the leak of the data of the users of the program.

FCC commissioner Brendan Carr posted letters to Tim Cook and Sundar Pichai on Twitter. In the publication, he called “not just another video application, but a wolf in sheep's clothing.” He also added that the app transfers user data to Beijing.

The letter calls TikTok a national security threat and cites publications and investigations that confirm the app collects user data and transfers it to China.

The FCC requires TikTok to be removed from the Google Play App Store by July 8. If this is not done, the companies will have to provide an explanation for their actions.

As a reminder, in December 2019, US Navy personnel were banned from using TikTok on mobile phones government-issued devices. In January 2020, the application was banned from the official devices of employees of the US State Department and the US Department of Homeland Security.

In July 2020, the situation escalated. It became known that the White House is studying the possibility of including the Chinese video platform TikTok in the “black list”, which will prohibit Americans from using it. This would be “one of the options to prevent China from receiving personal data through a social networking platform” in order to ensure national security.
