Ukrainian European jiu-jitsu champion Bohdana Golub announced the boycott of the World Cup due to the decision to admit representatives of Russia to the tournament.
“I believe that sport, like any other possible sphere of activity in Ukraine, cannot be outside of politics. When there is a full-scale war in the country, when bombs are being dropped on Ukrainian cities and villages, when part of the country is occupied by the Rashists, when civilians and our military are dying every day.
And then what I expected, but did not expect, happened. it will be so soon. For the 2022 World Championship in the Emirates, which will be held in early November, the entire Rashist jiu team is registered.
I, Holub Bohdana Olehivna, a master of sports of the international class in jiu-jitsu, a member of the national team of the Ukrainian jiu-jitsu team, European champion 2022, vice-champion of the World Games 2022, black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, categorically against and boycotting the World Cup 2022 in the Emirates.
I am glad that there are people in the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Jiu-Jitsu Association who share my opinion and position.
The official response of the IJJF, the International Jiu-Ji Federation – they understand the situation, support Ukraine, but there should be “peace, friendship, chewing gum” in their sport. Therefore, Russia and Belarus are very welcome guests for them at all competitions. And it doesn't matter that the majority of Russians and Belarusians support the destruction of Ukrainians,” Holub wrote on Facebook.
The full Ukrainian national team later joined the boycott.
