The new spot on the Sun tripled in size in a day

The stain is likely to become a source of outbreaks in the near future.

Scientists have detected a new spot on the Sun, which quickly grows and turns towards the Earth. According to Newsweek, it may become a source of solar flares in the near future.

The solar weather observation site Spaceweather.com reported on the sunspot. According to him, the structure known as AR3068 appeared on the southeast side of our star. Over the course of a day, the spot has tripled in size.

Solar spots are dark formations on the surface of our star, in which magnetic fields created by streams of charged solar plasma clump together before suddenly breaking apart. The resulting release of energy triggers bursts of radiation called solar flares and generates explosive jets of solar material called coronal mass ejections (CMEs).

If Earth is in the path of such ejections, they can interact with the magnetic field of our planet. This, in turn, can lead to disruptions in radio communications, power grids and satellites.

Such events are known as geomagnetic storms. They come in different strengths, and weak ones can usually go unnoticed by most people. At the same time, they can lead to problems in various industries, for example, in aviation.

Previously, scientists stated that increased solar activity forces satellites in Earth's orbit to leave their orbits . According to researchers' forecasts, the situation will only worsen in the future.
