Freight transport by autonomous vessels may soon be commonplace.
Japanese ship Suzaka flew from Tokyo Bay to Ise Bay, having covered almost 800 kilometers. This is the first flight in the world to be navigated entirely by artificial intelligence, according to Interesting engineering.
The publication emphasizes that this is not the first ship to operate under the control of artificial intelligence. So, earlier this year in Japan the ferry began to work completely autonomously. Now artificial intelligence has begun to control a commercial cargo ship.

Suzaka developed an autonomous navigation system Orca AI . The system consists of 18 cameras installed on board the ship, they served as watch and provided detection, tracking, data classification, range estimation and 360-degree survey.
Suzaka began its journey in Tokyo Bay, one of the busiest in the world , and reached the Gulf of Ise in 40 hours. During this time, navigation software on board the cargo ship performed 107 maneuvers to prevent collisions without any human assistance and evaded 400 to 500 ships in just one trip.
Last year, the first voyage was made by a stand-alone electric ship. However, this vessel was developed autonomously, and the length of its route was only 14 kilometers.
