Donetsk residents left their hometown eight years ago.
General Director of Shakhtar Serhiy Palkin shared his thoughts on returning to Donetsk.
“Since 2014 we have left Donetsk and played all over Ukraine: in Lviv, Kharkiv, Kyiv. But all this time we had one dream – to return We still have this dream, it may just take a little longer. Our country will remain united. This is our dream, without a dream it will be difficult to continue. It is difficult to live without hometown, training base, fans.
First of all , we will never return to Donetsk if it is controlled by Russia. We are a Ukrainian team and will play only in the Ukrainian championship. We will never play in the Russian championship – this is our main position, and I would like to emphasize this, “Palkin said in an interview. We will remind that since the spring of 2014 fighting in Ukraine was conducted in separate territories of Donetsk and Luhansk areas where separatists with support Russia has proclaimed the so-called “DPR and LPR”.
On February 24 this year, Russian President Putin issued an urgent statement on a special military operation in Ukraine, launching a large-scale invasion of Ukrainian cities.
