Russian bloggers have demanded $ 1 billion in compensation from Meta for blocking Instagram

At the same time, the social network was blocked by Roskomnadzor, from which no compensation is expected.

Российские блогеры потребовали от Meta миллиард долларов компенсации за блокировку Instagram

The Council of Bloggers under the Council of the Russian Federation demanded from Meta one billion dollars in compensation in favor of Instagram users who lost income due to the blocking of the social network, UNIAN reports.

Bloggers also believe that the company should publicly apologize to Russian citizens for blocking Instagram. Bloggers do not remember or do not even know that the social network in Russia is blocked by Roskomnadzor.

The founder of the Council of Bloggers of the Russian Federation Valeria Rytvina stated that the compensation is used to support individuals and legal entities that have suffered losses as a result of “illegal actions of Meta Platforms Inc.” What exactly is the illegality of the actions is not specified.

In case of non-payment of compensation, bloggers threaten to go to court.

Meta has not yet commented on the statement.

It will be recalled that after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Meta temporarily allowed Facebook and Instagram users from some countries to publish calls for violence against the Russian military, as well as calls for the deaths of Russian President Vladimir Putin and self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. Permission to publish the death toll was later revoked. A Russian court has declared Meta an extremist organization, and its social networks have banned it. However, they clarified that this ban on Facebook and Instagram does not restrict the actions of individuals and legal entities in their use.

The Prosecutor General's Office demanded that Roskomnadzor block the Instagram social network in the territory of the aggressor country , as “this network distributes publications calling for violence against Russian citizens, including servicemen.” Instagram blocking in Russia started on March 14.

Facebook has been blocked in the country since March 4 for “applying censorship to the Russian media.”
