Russia will block the social network Instagram, Interfax reports .
Access to the social network will be restricted by Roskomnadzor at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office.
According to the agency, “this network distributes publications calling for violence against Russian citizens, including servicemen.”
Facebook has been blocked in the country since March 4 for “applying censorship to the Russian media.”
“Iron Curtain for 3-2-1… Russia is blocked in Russia. This means that Russians do not have access to a social network. While digitalization is in full swing in Ukraine, Russians will not be able to post even a cat on Instagram. And this is just the beginning! ” The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine commented .
Instagram and Facebook belong to the American company Meta. The Prosecutor General's Office asked the court to recognize Meta as an extremist organization and ban its activities in Russia. The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on calls for extremism and aiding terrorism.
Earlier, Meta allowed users from some countries to publish posts calling for violence against Russians involved in Russia's attack on Ukraine .
