Russia intensifies cyberattacks against the United States, Poland and other allies of Ukraine – Microsoft report

Microsoft has summed up the first four months cyber wars , which accompanies a full-scale military invasion of Russia into Ukraine. Thus, the report of the company “Defending Ukraine: The First Lessons of Cyber ​​Warfare” states that our country manages to successfully repel most cyber attacks of the aggressor country and Russian hackers intensify attacks against the United States and allies in order to obtain intelligence.

According to the report, Microsoft managed to record attempts to attack 128 organizations in 42 countries. The main target of Russian hackers remained the United States, but Poland and the Baltic states, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Turkey were also under attack. In addition, the company's experts recorded activity against the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of NATO member states.

Microsoft notes that the activities of Russian hackers are aimed at four main groups of people. First, these are users from Russia who want to be set up to support the war in Ukraine. Secondly, these are Ukrainians, hackers trying to undermine the confidence of the people of our country in the ability to resist the Russian threat. In addition, residents of Europe and the United States are under attack, and hackers are seeking to weaken support for Ukraine. They are also attacking residents of neutral countries to secure Russia's support for the United Nations.

The company was also able to identify groups of hackers linked to Russia's intelligence services. Thus, three hacker groups cooperate with the GRU of Russia, one is known with the SZR, and three more are cooperating with the FSB.

Microsoft also managed to confirm the connection between Russia's cyberattacks on Ukraine and attacks on the battlefield. For example, on May 4, one of the groups attacked a government network in Vinnytsia, and on March 6, Russian troops fired eight missiles at Vinnytsia airport. Kyiv media companies were attacked on February 28 and March 1, and Russia struck the Kyiv TV tower on March 1.
