Russia demands disqualification of Petrakov, the head coach of the Ukrainian football team

In the Russian Federation, a specialist was accused of making discriminatory statements.

The Russian Football Union (RFS) appealed to UEFA with the demand to disqualify the head coach of the Ukraine national team Oleksandr Petrakov, The Guardian reports.

The Russians accused the specialist of “failure to observe political neutrality” and “discriminatory statements”.

A letter from the Russian Federation was sent to the UEFA ethics and discipline inspectors with quotes from the Ukrainian coach. In a conversation with journalists, Petrakov declared his support for defenders of Ukraine, and also called for the removal of Russian athletes from all international competitions.

The RFS saw in Petrakov's statements “discrimination on the basis of nationality” and “using football to defend political views.” .

As a reminder, FIFA and UEFA suspended all Russian national teams and clubs from international tournaments after the Russian Federation launched a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine.
