According to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as of July 25, there were 3,846 confirmed or suspected cases of the disease in the country. This figure exceeds the rate of Spain, where 3,100 cases of monkeypox infection have already been recorded. It also indicates an outbreak of the disease and an increase in testing for the disease.
Two more countries with large numbers of patients are Germany and Great Britain, which reported 2,352 and 2,208 cases, respectively.
The Washington Post reported that Joe Biden's administration is considering declaring a public health emergency. It is also reported that the administration plans to appoint a White House coordinator to oversee the government's response to monkeypox.
On July 21, 50 Democratic lawmakers sent an open letter to Biden urging him to declare a public health emergency and send millions of vaccine doses to the US from production facilities abroad.
Although officials say gay and bisexual people are at the highest risk, there are fears that monkeypox is spreading to other populations. On July 22, the first case of infection in children was recorded in the USA.
At the moment, no death from the disease has been recorded in the country.
Recall that earlier WHO recognized the outbreak of monkeypox as a global outbreak an emergency situation in the field of health care. The head of the organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, noted that the disease spreads the fastest among men who have sexual contact with other men, but emphasized that this is not a reason for discrimination, which, in his opinion, can be “more dangerous than any virus”.< /p>
