Legendary footballer Pele calls on Putin to stop military invasion of Ukraine

The Brazilian wants the killing of people in Ukraine to stop.

Legendary Brazilian footballer Pele addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin with a call to stop the military invasion of Ukraine.

The famous athlete posted a letter on his Instagram page before the qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup between the national teams of Ukraine and Scotland (3: 1):

“Vladimir Putin, today Ukraine is trying to forget for at least 90 minutes about the tragedy that still engulfs their country. Getting to the World Cup is a difficult task, which is now almost impossible when so much is at stake.

I want to use today's match as an opportunity to make a request: stop the invasion. There is no excuse to continue this violence. This conflict is disgusting, unjustified and brings nothing but pain, fear, horror and torment. There is no reason for this to continue.

When we met in the past and exchanged smiles, accompanied by long and handshakes, I never thought that one day we would be as divided as we are now. Wars exist only for the division of nations. There is no ideology that justifies shells that hide children's dreams, destroy families and kill innocent people.

I have lived for eight decades, seen wars, seen and heard hate speech by invertebrate leaders promoting atrocities security of their nation. We have to stop this and evolve. A long time ago, I promised myself that I would always stand for peace. You have the power to stop this conflict. In the same ones that I pressed in Moscow during our last meeting in 2017. ”
