A potentially dangerous asteroid from the Chelyabinsk meteorite family will approach the Earth

The celestial body does not pose any danger to the planet.

On May 27, an asteroid will fly past the Earth at a safe distance 7335 (1989 JA). According to Earthsky, although it will be invisible to the naked eye, it can be observed by professional astronomers and amateur astronomers.

7335 (1989 JA) belongs to the Apollo group, the same family of “space stones” as the Chelyabinsk meteorite that fell in 2013. Although the asteroid will fly at a safe distance, it will be its largest approach to Earth in the history of observations and the closest flight past the planet in the next 200 years.

Asteroid 7335 (1989 JA) orbits the Sun in 2 , 35 years old, its diameter is estimated at 1100 meters. The greatest rapprochement with the Earth is expected at 17:26 Kyiv time on May 27. However, the best time to observe with amateur telescopes will come two days before.

Due to its size, as well as the distance to which it will approach the Earth, the asteroid belongs to the class of potentially dangerous. But during the rapprochement with the planet on May 27, he will not pose any danger to the planet. It will fly more than four million kilometers, which is 10.5 times the distance from Earth to the Moon.

Earlier astronomers officially confirmed the discovery of another Trojan asteroid Earth . It has been designated 2020 XL5 and is the second such celestial body found on our planet.
