Zelenskyi on visas for Russians: “Europe is a territory of values, not Disneyland”

The President of Ukraine proposes to include restrictions in the eighth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi once again calls on Europe to limit the issuance of visas to citizens of the Russian Federation. He expressed such a position in a conversation with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

“I believe that the eighth sanctions package should provide for pan-European visa solutions for Russian citizens – such that none of those involved in this war could enjoy European hospitality,” Zelensky emphasized in his evening address.

The president noted that it is precisely about tourist visas. EU countries prefer to leave the possibility for Russians to apply for visas for humanitarian reasons, so that opponents of the regime can go to a safe country. they should not be able to use Europe for entertainment and fun. Europe is a land of values, not Disneyland for supporters of terror. And visa restrictions will definitely demonstrate this. The free world should encourage the Russians to take action against those who started this war,” Zelenskyi explains.

Ukraine has also repeatedly warned Europe that the aggressor will use cheap gas as a means of blackmail, he recalled. And the current restriction of supplies by the Nord Stream gas pipeline proves the truth of this statement.

During the conversation with the head of the EC, Zelensky also thanked von der Leyen for the support given to Ukraine and efforts to limit Russian excess profits from oil and gas. But he called for speeding up the provision of new financial assistance.

Another point of conversation concerned Ukraine's application to the EU. “A very important aspect of today's conversation is the opportunity for the European Commission to make a quick assessment as soon as we implement all its recommendations,” the president added.
