Zelensky vetoed a law restoring the military prosecutor's office

The President pointed out that the adopted bill violates the Constitution.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky vetoed the law on resumption of military prosecutors to ensure the prosecutor's office in the war zone, which was registered in parliament before the Russian invasion and adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on April 1.

According to the authors of the law, the law aims to improve the prosecutor's office in conditions of war, and the restoration of the military prosecutor's office should provide social protection for Ukrainian citizens serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

However, President Zelensky said in his proposals that the bill passed by deputies does not comply with the conceptual framework and the functions of the prosecutor's office, as defined by the Constitution. legislative, executive and judicial power in Ukraine, and the tasks set by the Constitution for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the nature and essence of military service, “the President stressed.

Recall that the activities of military prosecutors were abolished in the framework of the Prosecutor's Office reform in 2019. The reform of the military prosecutor's office provided for its removal from the structure of the Ministry of Defense and its transfer to the Prosecutor General's Office in the form of the Chief Specialized Prosecutor's Office.
