We are ready to go to neutrality and nuclear-free status – Zelensky

The president needs real security guarantees for this, not a “paper a la the Budapest Memorandum.”

Мы готовы пойти на нейтралитет и безъядерный статус — Зеленский

Ukraine is ready to discuss and develop a document that will fix Ukraine's non-alignment and its nuclear-free status. But only on the condition of real security guarantees, and not on the level of the discredited Budapest Memorandum. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with Russian media.

“Security guarantees and neutrality, the nuclear-free status of our state. We are ready to go for it. This is the most important point. This was the first point of principle for the Russian Federation, as far as I remember. And as far as I remember, they started the war because of that… Therefore, this point is a point of security guarantees for Ukraine. And since they say it's for them [security guarantees], it's clear to me, and it's being discussed. It has been deeply worked out, but I am interested in it not being another piece of paper a la the Budapest Memorandum and so on. Therefore, we are interested in turning this paper into a serious agreement to be signed, ”Zelensky said.

The President of our country also reminded of the sharp deterioration of relations with the Russians and the Russian Federation after its attack on Ukraine.

“Despite the fact that I am the president and must be a fairly pragmatic person, the relationship has deteriorated since the 24th. It has deteriorated very much. The emotional component of the relationship with the Russian Federation and the people has been lost. Even to the people. Despite the fact that I understand in my mind that there are many people in Russia who support Ukraine. I am grateful to them, because without a sundress radio, without the work of honest journalism, without the inner potential of a Russian man who is for justice and for Ukraine… And yes, let him be, above all, for himself – which means he will be for Ukraine in this situation. Because the war on our territory will not bring anything good to this Russian man, if he realizes. The attitude of the whole population has deteriorated, “the president said.

As for “denazification” and “demilitarization”, the Ukrainian head of state has made it clear that he does not understand what the Kremlin means.

“Denazification” and “demilitarization” – we do not discuss this at all … We will not sit at the table at all, if we talk about some “demilitarization”, some “denazification”. For me, these are completely incomprehensible things, “Zelensky said.

In an interview with “Public”, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said: “The final compromise in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia will be decided by an all-Ukrainian referendum. This concerns the issues of security guarantees, the temporarily occupied territories of Donbass and Crimea. “

What this statement of the president can mean and why the referendum will most likely not take place, Mikhail Lebed explains in the article ” Peace Treaty on the Results of the Referendum: Why It Won't .”
