Ukraine will send grain to Ethiopia and Somalia for free

The Cabinet of Ministers approved humanitarian aid for countries facing the threat of famine.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the decision to provide humanitarian aid Ethiopia and Somalia, whose population is threatened by famine. These countries will receive from our state up to 50 thousand tons of free wheat worth 420 million hryvnias. This is stated in the relevant resolution published on the Government portal.

The grain is planned to be transferred from the property of the joint-stock company “State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine”. It should be no worse than the third class.

According to the document, the funds to reimburse the cost of food will be allocated from the reserve fund of the state budget and sent to companies, taking into account the average market price of wheat and VAT.

The transportation of food from the Odesa port to Ethiopia and Somalia is going to be carried out at the expense of international organizations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was instructed to agree on the issue of delivery and payment with the United Nations, as well as the competent authorities of the two mentioned African countries.

The State Customs Service will have to process the cargo promptly when crossing the border, and the State Border Service – to carry out its control as a priority.

Earlier it was reported that the bulk carrier IKARIA ANGEL with 30 thousand tons of wheat on board, chartered by the UN World Food Program, left for Ethiopia from the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk .
