Ukraine will no longer have to pay Russia for the storage of spent nuclear fuel

Put into operation its own storage.

Ukraine no longer needs to pay Russia for the storage of waste nuclear fuel. Energoatom has received permission to put into operation our own Centralized Spent Fuel Storage Facility . Savings in monetary terms will reach $ 200 million a year. This was reported by the press service of Energoatom.

The relevant permission from the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation was obtained on April 25. The permit was scheduled to be issued on March 9, but the war made its adjustments. Due to the occupiers in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, the commissioning of the facility had to be postponed.

Currently, the storage facility is completely ready for operation, Energoatom reports. The company was not affected by the occupiers – all equipment, computers and special equipment are working normally.

Recall that the management of Energoatom, which was appointed during the presidency of Volodymyr Zelensky, organized money laundering for the construction of the Centralized Spent Fuel Storage Facility in Chernobyl. This conclusion is made in their investigation by Schem journalists, including on the basis of an audio recording of a meeting in the office of a high-ranking Energoatom official.
