While Russia is blackmailing the world with hunger, Ukraine is trying to prevent a global food crisis.

President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Sunday that that this year's harvest in Ukraine is threatened by the Russian invasion. He announced this on his social networks.

According to United24 data, which was cited by President Zelensky, Ukraine is the second largest supplier of grain to the European Union. Last year, Ukrainian farmers collected about 80 million tons of grain. This year, according to United24 estimates, they managed to collect less than half of their harvest.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi also assured that the main goal of Ukraine is to prevent a world food crisis caused by the Russian invasion. He noted that Ukrainian grain is exported via alternative routes – road, rail and through the ports of neighboring countries.

“Ukraine is one of the largest grain exporters. This year, due to the Russian invasion, the Ukrainian harvest is under threat. While Russia is blackmailing the world with hunger, we are trying to prevent a global food crisis,” Zelenskyy wrote.

Previously, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal predicted that this year the harvest of grain and oilseed crops in Ukraine would be 70 percent.

The Ministry of Agriculture assured that the volume of the wheat harvest , buckwheat, corn, barley, oats, rye and other crops will fully cover the domestic consumption of Ukraine.

Last week, Russia promised Turkey and the UN to unblock Ukrainian ports. The Turkish side reported that the first shipment of Ukrainian grain to Turkey may leave tomorrow.
